Background of the study
Grading is an essential component of academic evaluation in universities. However, traditional grading systems are often inefficient, error-prone, and slow in providing feedback to students (Shittu & Musa, 2023). At the University of Sokoto and other academic institutions in Sokoto North Local Government Area, Sokoto State, the manual grading system has led to delays in processing grades, poor record-keeping, and limited accessibility for students to track their academic progress (Ibrahim & Umar, 2023). As the number of students continues to grow, it becomes increasingly difficult to manage grading effectively with traditional methods.
A web-based grading system can automate the grading process, ensure accurate record-keeping, and provide real-time access to grades for students and faculty alike. The shift to a web-based system can enhance transparency, speed up feedback delivery, and improve the overall academic experience for both students and administrators (Mamman & Bello, 2023). This study aims to design and implement a web-based grading system that will streamline grading processes at universities in Sokoto North Local Government Area.
Statement of the problem
The traditional manual grading system in universities within Sokoto North Local Government Area leads to inefficiencies in grading, delays in feedback, and difficulties in tracking student performance. This study seeks to design and implement a web-based grading system to address these challenges.
Objectives of the study
To design an efficient web-based grading system for universities in Sokoto North Local Government Area.
To implement the grading system and integrate it into the university's academic operations.
To evaluate the effectiveness of the web-based grading system in improving grading accuracy and feedback timeliness.
Research questions
How effective is the web-based grading system in improving the efficiency of grading and feedback delivery at the university?
What impact does the system have on students' ability to track and access their grades?
How do faculty and administrators perceive the usability and efficiency of the web-based grading system?
Significance of the study
This study will enhance the grading process at universities by providing a digital solution that automates grading, improves accuracy, and ensures timely feedback. The findings will support the adoption of similar systems in other universities to improve academic administration and student satisfaction.
Scope and limitations of the study
The study will focus on designing and implementing a web-based grading system for universities in Sokoto North Local Government Area, Sokoto State. The study will evaluate the system’s impact on grading efficiency and feedback timeliness but will not extend to other educational institutions or regions.
